The New Zealand Deer Stalkers Association was founded in 1937, and is a member of the NZ Mountain Safety Council and the NZ Shooting Federation. It has a vast store of knowledge gained over the years which it has put in training form as its Hunting Understanding National Training Scheme (HUNTS). This scheme is conducted for the NZDA by its 55 branches around the country under the guidance of a National Coordinator and their advisers.
The course includes items such as Ethics, Ecology, Equipment, Clothing, Navigation, Firearms, Hunting Techniques, Photography, Bushcraft etc. This course is proving most popular both with young adults and new members of the association. Expert instructors are brought in for specialty items in the curriculum. A very complete manual is given to every trainee, and a certificate is issued to everyone who finishes the course.
NZDA also has Branch huts, lodges and rifle ranges that are available for hire to the public.
Further information may be obtained from the above address, which is staffed by a salaried secretary.
